Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we look after it. We keep it in plain English, because privacy shouldn't be buried in jargon.

Who we are

Copper Badger is a visibility growth agency based in the United Kingdom, helping businesses get found across Google, AI search and the web. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" refer to Copper Badger.

For the purposes of UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, Copper Badger is the "data controller" responsible for your personal data.

Copper Badger is run as a sole trader in the UK. If you have any questions about this policy, you can reach us any time at hello@copperbadger.co.uk.

What information we collect

We only collect what we need to respond to you and run our business well. Depending on how you interact with us, this may include:

  • Details you give us directly: your name, email address, business or website, and anything you write when you fill in our contact form, email us or book a call.
  • Usage information: how you found and moved around our website, collected through analytics and cookies (see below).
  • Client information: if you become a client, the information needed to deliver our services, communicate with you and manage our agreement.

How and why we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your enquiries and have a conversation about your business;
  • Provide, manage and improve our services;
  • Send you information you've asked for, or updates relevant to work we're doing for you;
  • Understand how our website is used so we can make it better;
  • Meet our legal, accounting and regulatory obligations.

We will never sell your personal data, and we won't send you marketing you haven't asked for.

Our lawful basis for using it

Under UK GDPR we rely on the following lawful bases:

  • Consent: for example, when you choose to contact us or accept non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests: to respond to enquiries, run and improve our business, and keep our website secure, in a way that doesn't override your rights.
  • Legal obligation: where we're required to keep records, for example for tax purposes.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes. Ever.

To run our business we rely on a small number of trusted providers, such as our email and website hosting and the service that delivers our contact form. These providers only process your information on our instructions and solely so we can respond to you and operate the website. We may also share information with our accountant or other professional advisers where we're legally required to.

Separately, when we work with a client we often set up tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console on that client's own website, so we can measure and improve the work we're doing for them. That's part of our service to clients and doesn't involve sharing your enquiry with anyone.

How long we keep your information

We keep your information only for as long as we need it. Enquiry messages are kept while we're in contact and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you get back in touch. Client records are kept for the length of our relationship and for as long as we're legally required to afterwards, typically for accounting purposes. After that, we securely delete or anonymise it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • Ask us to correct anything that's inaccurate;
  • Ask us to delete your data, where there's no reason for us to keep it;
  • Object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it;
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it.

To exercise any of these, just email hello@copperbadger.co.uk and we'll help. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, though we'd always appreciate the chance to put things right first.

How we keep your information safe

We take sensible steps to protect your information from being lost, misused or accessed without authorisation, including using reputable, secure providers and limiting who can access personal data. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we work hard to protect your data and to respond quickly if anything ever goes wrong.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as our business or the law changes. When we do, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of the page. We'd encourage you to check back occasionally.
